Steve Tootell
Pottery has the power to change peoples lives, to shape peoples lives and to beautify our world. I have been making pots and teaching ceramics for over 37 years in the United Kingdom and Japan. It has been my privilege to develop my work and knowledge of pottery under the tutelage of Master Potters such as David Frith, Euan Craig, and Masakuzu Kusakabe to name but a few. I have been fortunate to bi-locate between U.K. and Japan where I have been developing my work in a series of kilns (primarily the Euan Craig fast fire soda kiln in Mashiko and Denbigh). I recently fired my second anagama this time in Fukushima with the Shiga potters in Kawauchi. I was awarded a First Class Honors Degree in Art Education from Liverpool University but can truthfully say that my education in ceramics really began when I came to Japan in 1984.
